The Batticaloa Medical Association is pleased to present a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session titled “From Forest to Frontline: An Update on the Nipah Virus.” This timely programme will explore the evolving epidemiology, transmission dynamics, laboratory diagnosis, clinical manifestations, and infection prevention strategies related to Nipah virus infection. Nipah virus remains a significant emerging zoonotic threat in South Asia, with high case fatality rates and potential for healthcare-associated transmission. This session aims to strengthen clinical preparedness, enhance early recognition, and reinforce infection control practices in hospital settings.
The lecture will be delivered by Dr. B. Devakanthan, Consultant Clinical Microbiologist, Teaching Hospital Batticaloa, who will provide practical insights relevant to frontline clinicians and healthcare professionals. Date: 26th February 2026
